The Ministry of Energy and its Department was among 161 teams involving over 26,000 participants that participated in a march-past to mark Brunei Darussalam 36th National Day on 23rd February 2020. The Ministry's team, comprising of 100 participants was led by Yang Mulia Awang Haji Azhar bin Haji Yahya, Permanent Secretary (Energy).

Also taking part were Yang Mulia Pengiran Haji Jamra Weira bin Pengiran Haji Petra, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Energy and Power) as well as officers and staff of the Ministry and the Department of Electrical Services. Meanwhile, about 66 personnel from the Ministry participated in the field performance.

The ceremony started with His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam inspecting the guard of honour parade comprising personnel of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces and Royal Brunei Police Force, and was followed by a march-past involving 161 contingents ranging from various sectors of the armed forces, government civil servants, higher education institutions, schools, civil associations, public organizations and foreign associations at Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar Ali Saifuddien. The event was concluded with the National Day field performance "Realising the National Vision 2035".

This year's National Day celebration retained last year's theme of "Menjayakan Wawasan Negara". As the country's celebrated its 3 decades of independence, the theme highlighted the sense of national unity on accomplishing Wawasan Brunei 2035. In alignment with the theme, the Ministry of Energy played a pivitol role in the development of the country's Oil and Gas, Power and Renewable Energy sectors. The Oil and Gas sector as the most mature industry in Brunei with 90 years of history, accounts for more than 60% of the country's GDP and is one of the largest public sector's employers in Brunei. In 2019, the Oil and Gas sector accounted for 89% of the country's export. The Ministry through the Department of Electrical Services is also responsible in providing efficient and reliable electricity supply. As such the Ministry will continue its effort in realizing Brunei Vision 2035.

It is hoped that the Ministry's participation in the National Day celebration promote the spirit of unity and patriotism among the Ministry's officers and staff. The event marks the Ministry's second participation in National Day celebrations since becoming a Ministry in 2018.
